I've only got a couple very vague stories in this category, but they're driving me bonkers, so I'll go ahead and put them out there and see if anyone has any ideas.
Like my other Adopt-A-Plot lists, I've left specific details - like place or people names out - so you can take this in whatever direction you desire and call it your own. You don't have to give me credit for it. I only ask, if you would, just please share with me your ideas - if it's as simple as brainstorming or a full-blown story. You can shoot me a note through the DA message system or leave a comment below if you'd like others to read and weigh in. The way I figure it, I'll love what you've created and want to help you get it published so I can buy and read it from you and/or it'll give me new inspiration to turn out my own story. Either way, it's a win-win situation!

"Sea Princess" (working title) - variation on Disney's The Little Mermaid with a bit of Splash and Seaquest DSV. Fantasy meets modern/sci-fi. The setting is a human undersea colony. A young man comes to work here - occupation unknown, but I know he's an excellent diver and swimmer so I was thinking Coast Guard? current or former. He's on a deep-sea test when he discovers what appears to be mermen soldiers attacking a mermaid (Yeah, sure, right, must be the bends right?), but she's in trouble, and he decides to intervene and defeat her attackers. Then, he gets in trouble himself and loses consciousness. When he comes to, he's being checked out by a very familiar beautiful blonde-haired woman. She's the station's doctor, but he's sure she's the mermaid he rescued. She chocks it up to his mind playing tricks on him, but how could it? he thinks. He didn't meet her until now, so how could he have imagined it was her. The truth is, she is the mermaid he rescued. She's hiding among the humans while her people and another mermaid clan/tribe are warring one another. They tried to kidnap her to use as leverage to get her father to surrender; she's a princess. Now, the other side has decided the humans have taken a side in the conflict. Something will have to be done and soon before it turns into a world war!
"Experiments" (working title) - this is very much based off the Seaquest DSV episode with the mermaid with a bit of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea thrown in. The main character is a female reporter with a traumatic childhood experience, she almost drowned in a rip current, but a boy came and rescued her. She never saw him again and wondered if he was even real. As an adult, she's afraid of water, and to get over that fear, she goes on a cruise. The cruise liner is attacked. (I think it's actually a submarine cruise liner) She's knocked out by the initial impact and awakens to find her cabin flooding. Trying not to panic, she dives and manages to free herself from the sinking vessel. Now, she's on the surface, and there's no one else around. Where is everyone? Is she the only surviver? There's a disturbance in the water. She fears it's a shark and prepares to defend herself. A head emerges; it's the boy from when she was little only he's grown up. How did he get here? It becomes evident he's a merman, and he needs her help to rescue the crew. They've been taken by pirates to some mad scientists who intend to experiment on them to make human merfolk.
Those are my two main sea stories. If I come up with more, I'll add them. So check back for updates.

I Look forward to reading stories from both these plots. Especially the "Experiments" one. Add a little Dr. Moreau Island type plot mixed with merfolk and that's a story I'd want to read. I personally think The Little Mermaid is overdone... But I look forward to reading both of them!
